The East Mecklenburg Eagles can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against Rocky River by a score of 52-44. The win was just what East Mecklenburg needed coming off of a 65-41 defeat in their prior matchup.
East Mecklenburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jurnee Darling, who scored 20 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Darling has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Presense Downer, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, Rocky River saw an underclassman step up: Makenzie Michael scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Michael is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted four or more in the last 17 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Camille Montgomery, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
East Mecklenburg's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-13. As for Rocky River, they dropped their record down to 6-12 with that loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.
East Mecklenburg will challenge the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Garinger is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season. As for Rocky River, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Charlotte Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully the Ravens like a good challenge.
