The Lamar Texans will venture away from home to face off against the Cy-Fair Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lamar took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Houston Math Science & Tech a 15-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Texans considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Leila Ayarzagoitia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Laura Ramirez was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 2-for-2. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kate Perez also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Lamar lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Cy-Fair entered their tilt with Northbrook on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 15-0 victory.
Like Lamar, Cy-Fair also got a great game from a two-way player: Kathryn Kram. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. Kram was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Cy-Fair got a massive performance out of Cori Figgs, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Isabella Rios was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
Cy-Fair pushed their record up to 19-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lamar, they moved to 7-11 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Lamar might still be hurting after the 14-1 loss they got from Cy-Fair in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Can the Texans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
