After a string of four wins, the Stanton Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. Their rough 57-32 defeat to Oakland-Craig might stick with them for a while. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Stanton in their matchups with Oakland-Craig: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the defeat, Stanton saw an underclassman step up: Hayden Dixon scored 13 points. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. Kelby Pohlman was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Oakland-Craig to victory, but perhaps none more so than Morgan Ray, who scored 15 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ray has scored at least 25% of Oakland-Craig's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adi Rennerfeldt, who scored 11 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Stanton's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Oakland-Craig, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Stanton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on January 6th. Logan View/Scribner-Snyder is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Oakland-Craig, they will head out on the road to face off against Bancroft-Rosalie on Wednesday. Hopefully Bancroft-Rosalie focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Tuesday.
