The Puckett Wolves will square off against the Scott Central Rebels at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Puckett is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Puckett is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Union just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Yellowjackets by a score of 6-5.
Lila Murphy put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
In other batting news, Myla Vanderford made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Scott Central waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Chiefs with a sharp 15-5 victory. The game was the first time the Rebels have beaten the Chiefs on their field since March 24, 2018.
Like Puckett, Scott Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Kadelyn Washington. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Washington was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Deja Boyd was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Taniyah Body was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Scott Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in eight consecutive contests.
Scott Central's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Puckett, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-4.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Puckett has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Scott Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .496. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Puckett's way against Scott Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2016, as Puckett made off with a 19-9 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
