Fuqua hasn't had much luck against Brunswick Academy recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Falcons will be playing at home against the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Fuqua is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Fuqua lost 12-2 to Kenston Forest on Tuesday.
Fuqua saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Collins Easter, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Brunswick Academy put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Varsity Opponent. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over Varsity Opponent. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won eight contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Aubrey Lynn Corum and Olivia Ann Evans were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Corum struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Evans tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Corum scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Evans scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Evans also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Brunswick Academy got a massive performance out of Avery Griffin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Griffin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylie Reed Walker, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Brunswick Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five strikeouts batters in 12 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Brunswick Academy pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Fuqua, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fuqua hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Brunswick Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fuqua suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Brunswick Academy in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
