Baseball Recap: Memphis Central Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Memphis Central hadn't done well against Whitehaven recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Warriors blew past the Tigers 15-7. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won seven matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Isaiah Reynolds and Evan Nelson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Reynolds struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Nelson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Reynolds went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Nelson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. Those four stolen bases gave Nelson a new career-high.

In other batting news, Memphis Central got a massive performance out of Patrick Ryan, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Tyler Yates, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Memphis Central, bringing their record up to 12-6-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Whitehaven, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Memphis Central will challenge Fayette Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Whitehaven, they will square off against Kingsbury at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mighty Falcons have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season.
