The Bound Brook Crusaders are taking a road trip to take on the Bernards Mountaineers at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. The last three games Bound Brook has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Friday, Bound Brook didn't have quite enough to beat Bayonne and fell 5-4.
Isabella Marusiak spent all 10.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Rachael Gurczeski made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Kathy Reyes also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bernards, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Franklin with a sharp 10-3 victory on Thursday. The Mountaineers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Bernards also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Gabby Mongo gave up three earned runs on seven hits. Mongo has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brooke Helpinstill, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Kriztina Lekai, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Bound Brook dropped their record down to 1-7 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Bernards, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
