Plainfield and Franklin Community are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2015, but not for long. The Plainfield Quakers will square off against the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Plainfield has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 186 points over their last three matchups.
Last Friday, Plainfield slipped by Greenwood 65-64.
The match pitted two dominant forwards against one another in Noah Smith and Isaac O'Neal. Smith had a great game and went 12-for-20 en route to 27 points and seven boards. Meanwhile, O'Neal did his best for the losing side, going 5-for-8 to rack up 15 points.
Meanwhile, Franklin Community posted their biggest win since February 9, 2024 on Friday. Everything went their way against Perry Meridian as Franklin Community made off with a 52-30 victory. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Grizzly Cubs had established a 20 point advantage.
Franklin Community's win came from a few key players Plainfield will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kolt Nelson, who posted eight points in addition to 12 rebounds and six assists. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Jayce Nielson, who had ten points and four steals.
Franklin Community was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Perry Meridian only racked up eight assists.
Plainfield is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points over those games. As for Franklin Community, their record is now 7-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Plainfield has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Franklin Community struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Plainfield strolled past Franklin Community when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 83-69. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Franklin Community's Micah Davis, who went 7-for-11 from beyond the arc on his way to 36 points and seven boards. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for Plainfield to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
