The Los Gatos Wildcats scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. It was close, but they ultimately received the gift of a 61-59 win from a begrudging Wildcatssquad. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Los Gatos was led to victory by Scotty Brennan and Nolan G. Koch. Brennan scored 17 points, while G. Koch scored 22 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which G. Koch has scored at least 25% of Los Gatos' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ronan Chinmulgund, who scored ten points.
Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Demarco Hunter, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds. The game was Hunter's third in a row with at least ten points. Kirby Seals was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with five steals.
Los Gatos' win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Santa Cruz, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
Los Gatos will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on North Monterey County at 11:00 a.m. on December 27th. North Monterey County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 882nd, while Los Gatos is ranked 129th). Santa Cruz will be home for the holidays to greet Napa at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
