After a string of three wins, the Pocahontas Redskins's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 58-32 walloping at the hands of Greene County Tech. While losing is never fun, Pocahontas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arkansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Greene County Tech is ranked 30th).
Greene County Tech's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ava Carter led the charge by scoring eight points along with six steals. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Weslyn Burnside, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Pocahontas' defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Greene County Tech, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5-1 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pocahontas will take on Blytheville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Blytheville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Greene County Tech won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Westside on December 30, 2023.
