Brother Rice and St. Rita are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Crusaders are taking a road trip to take on the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Brother Rice is coming into the game hot, having won their last 19 games.
Brother Rice's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Saint Ignatius College Prep. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Danny Sheehan looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brother Rice got a massive performance out of Gavin Triezenberg, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Nolan Ramoley was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Brother Rice always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Saint Ignatius College Prep only posted an OBP of .273.
Meanwhile, St. Rita didn't have quite enough to beat St. Laurence on Tuesday and fell 4-3. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Sullivan Kazee was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.
At the plate, St. Rita saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colin Quinn, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
Brother Rice pushed their record up to 20-1 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. Rita, their loss dropped their record down to 9-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Brother Rice has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Rita struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Brother Rice suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to St. Rita in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Crusaders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
