West Chicago dropped their record down to 4-13 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Yorkville Christian Mustangs by a score of 18-17. On the bright side, the 17- run effort marked the Wildcats' highest-scoring contest to date.
Zach Williamson put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. West Chicago is 2-1 when Williamson allows two or fewer hits, but 2-12 otherwise. Williamson was even better at the plate, going 4-for-6 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, West Chicago got a massive performance out of Sam Zalak, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Zalak is becoming a predictor of the Wildcats' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Manny Figueroa, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
As for Yorkville Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games.
Like West Chicago, Yorkville Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Reese Seng. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off six hits. Seng was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Danny Paige and Benny Raddatz did most of the damage at the plate: Paige got on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and one double, while Raddatz got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three runs gave Raddatz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Phoenix Oliver, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Chicago will face off against Streamwood at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Yorkville Christian, they will head out to face off against Westminster Christian at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
