Softball Recap: Lawrence Academy Wins Going Away Against Rocky Mount Academy

Lawrence Academy had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Rocky Mount Academy on Thursday. The Warriors put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 12-5 victory. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Clair Ferebee made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Claire Smith was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Addie Phelps was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Lawrence Academy pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Rocky Mount Academy, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Looking ahead, Lawrence Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Halifax Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 3.9, the Vikings 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Rocky Mount Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against North Raleigh Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
