The Alleghany Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell to Mount Airy 37-31. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Alleghany in their matchups with Mount Airy: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite the loss, Alleghany saw an underclassman step up: Elizabeth Collins scored nine points along with 14 rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Paula Martinez, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Alleghany's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.7 points per game. As for Mount Airy, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-9.
Alleghany will be playing in front of their home fans against South Stokes at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. South Stokes presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Alleghany in North Carolina (South Stokes is ranked 243rd, while Alleghany is ranked 494th). Mount Airy on the road again on Thursday and play against Elkin at 6:30 p.m. on January 25th.
