The Pima Roughriders waltzed into their game on Monday with three straight wins but they left with four. They enjoyed a cozy 54-40 victory over Safford. Given Pima's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Safford is ranked 152nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pima's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sadie Richardson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Ady Hoopes was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Pima has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. As for Safford, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pima will face off against Blue Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Blue Ridge will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Safford, they will head out on the road to square off against Empire at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Empire comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
