Makaree Chapman made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylie Thornton, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Alexis Cantrell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one double.
Lexington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Clear Fork got the win against Shelby on Wednesday by a conclusive 7-1.
Miley Shafer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits.
On the hitting side, Katrina Rogers was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Jada Brokaw, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Clear Fork pushed their record up to 11-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lexington, their record is now 16-2.
Clear Fork's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Lexington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Clear Fork, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 strikeouts. Will Lexington keep running through batters, or will the Colts buck the trend?
Lexington took their win against Clear Fork in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. Will the Minutemen repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
