Wharton is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They are taking a road trip to challenge the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Wharton comes in on four and Wiregrass Ranch on seven.
While Wharton's victory against Chamberlain wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Wharton came out on top in a nail-biter against Chamberlain on Thursday, sneaking past 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since April 4, 2024.
Willa Soorus looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in February.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Adriana Cadicamo, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Madelyn Parker, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Wharton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Wiregrass Ranch made easy work of Weeki Wachee on Wednesday and carried off a 13-4 victory. Considering the Bulls have won six matches by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Chloe Troupe was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Zoe Troupe was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Wiregrass Ranch's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wharton, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Wharton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Wiregrass Ranch struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Wharton might still be hurting after the 19-4 loss they got from Wiregrass Ranch when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Wharton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
