Smyrna has gone 8-2 against Sussex Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Golden Knights at 7:00 p.m. Smyrna is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Smyrna is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Dover, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Smyrna was ranked sixth). The Eagles took their contest on Saturday with ease, bagging a 46-7 win over the Senators. The game marked the Eagles' most dominant victory of the season.
Drew Marks was his usual excellent self, throwing for 242 yards and five TDs while completing 90% of his passes, and also punching in one touchdown on the ground. That's the most passing touchdowns he has posted since back in September of 2024. Kahmaj Kearney was Marks' top target, picking up 24 receiving yards and one score, while also rushing for 55 yards on only six carries.
Meanwhile, Sussex Central gave up the first points on Saturday, but they didn't give up any more after. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 22-21 win over St. Georges Tech. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Golden Knights were the better team in the second half.
Smyrna better keep an eye on Armon Floyd-Satchell. He was instrumental in Sussex Central's win, rushing for 69 yards and one touchdown.
Sussex Central didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of William Harmon and Devin Jackson. Harmon also rushed for 156 rushing yards, which is notable because Sussex Central is 3-1 when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 1-4 otherwise.
Smyrna now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Sussex Central, their record now sits at 4-5.
Smyrna didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Sussex Central when the teams last played back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 30-26 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Golden Knights' Malik Bell, who rushed for 181 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Eagles to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
