Tri-Eastern recap September 24, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Union City, who defeated 271st ranked Centerville, 20-12.
Northeastern added to the longest winning streak in Tri-Eastern this week by beating Tri, 42-22. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Knights.
Tyler Weaver put up the best numbers through the air as the Bulldogs lost to the Indians. He finished with 7 completions for 79 yards. Weaver's favorite target this week was Austin Mavity, who caught 3 passes for 29 yards.
Kelsy Kirkland was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 200 yards on 19 carries as Northeastern lost to Union County. Joey Claypoole also contributed to the rushing game with 116 yards on the ground.
Durham was the best wideout in the league this week as the Tigers lost to the Patriots. Durham racked up 4 receptions for 57 yards. Bryan Mathews helped Hagerstown's passing attack out by catching 7 balls for 46 yards.
Trevor Bradway provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Hagerstown lost to Union County. He completed 18 passes for 151 yards and also ran for 153 yards.
Centerville's Weaver and Austin Hall have formed a dream team this season, leading Tri-Eastern in both passing and receiving yards. Weaver has thrown for 796 yards this season, while Hall, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has 12 catches for 289 yards. Kirkland from Mike Roeder's team leads the league in rushing with 679 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Winchester takes on Union City. As it stands, the Golden Falcons are in second, while Kevin Maloy's team is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when the Knights and Perry Irwin's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Northeastern comes in having scored 158 this season, while the Bulldogs have scored 136. The Knights scored 42 points last week as they topped the Titans.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Winchester takes on the Indians. Mike Jones' team has allowed 83 points this season, while Union City has given up 81. The Golden Falcons allowed 14 points last week as they beat Cambridge City Lincoln.
Winchester took down the Golden Eagles 46-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
