The Ellis Railroaders lost against the St. John Tigers back in December of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Ellis took a 45-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. John. Ellis has struggled against St. John recently, as their game on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Ellis saw an underclassman step up: Aiden Aschenbrenner scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Schartz, who scored 10 points.
St. John's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quade smith, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Daniel Portillo, who scored 10 points.
Ellis' defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for St. John, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Ellis will square off against Hoisington at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Hoisington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Monday. St. John is on the road again on Friday and play against South Central at 6:30 p.m. on December 8th.
