The Patrick Henry Academy Patriots's 19-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They took a 51-34 bruising from Cross Schools on Tuesday.
Despite the defeat, Patrick Henry Academy saw an underclassman step up: Saquoia Sexton scored nine points along with 13 rebounds. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Emilee Stanley was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Ryan Mayers was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds for Cross Schools. That's the first time this season that Mayers pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Hollings, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Patrick Henry Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Cross Schools, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Patrick Henry Academy will take on John Paul II at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cross Schools, they will head out on the road to face off against Holly Hill Academy at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Holly Hill Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 249th, while Cross Schools is ranked 75th).
