The Soddy Daisy Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Alcoa Tornadoes on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Soddy Daisy sitting on four straight victories and Alcoa on 12.
Soddy Daisy took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Heritage, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Trojans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 win over the Mountaineers on Monday. Soddy Daisy's victory was all the more impressive since the Mountaineers were averaging only 3.97 runs allowed on the season.
Izzy Webb made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Soddy Daisy got a massive performance out of Lilyana Blaylock, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Blaylock has posted since back in April. Chloe McDonald was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Soddy Daisy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Alcoa beat Signal Mountain 7-2 on Monday.
Soddy Daisy's record is now 22-18-1. As for Alcoa, their record now sits at 33-2.
Soddy Daisy got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 against Alcoa by a conclusive 6-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
