Mount Carmel extended the longest winning streak in Chicago Catholic - Blue this week by beating Brother Rice, 56-7. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Mount Carmel took down the Crusaders 56-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Loyola Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jack Penn threw for 58 and one touchdown and Jimmy Mangan had 44 yards receiving. On the ground Peter Pujals chipped in 82 yards. Paul Kluckman helped Loyola Academy's passing attack out by catching four balls for 30 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Pujals of the Ramblers is the league leader in passing yards this season with 747. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, St. Rita's Derrick Miles has rushed for 277 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Julian Crum. The St. Rita star has 22 catches for 273 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Loyola Academy and Frank Lenti's team. John Holecek's team comes into the matchup ranked eighth in the state, while the Caravan ranks third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Ramblers take on Mount Carmel. Loyola Academy has allowed 58 points this season, while the Caravan have given up 34. The Ramblers allowed 0 points last week as they bested Gordon Tech.
Mount Carmel made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 171 from 430. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 56-7 victory over Brother Rice last week.
