The Foard Tigers will venture away from home to square off against the Alexander Central Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Foard has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 18.
Foard managed to slip by West Iredell the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Tigers lost 19-4 to the Warriors on Tuesday.
Webb Williams made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Alexander Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over St. Stephens on Thursday. Considering the Cougars have won six games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Jude Carter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Carter was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
In other batting news, Sawyer Chapman-Mays was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Ty Matheson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Alexander Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Foard, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Foard has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Alexander Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Foard skirted past Alexander Central 3-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
