Softball Recap: Shorecrest Prep Wins Going Away Against Cambridge Christian

While Shorecrest Prep didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Cambridge Christian Lancers with a sharp 17-0 victory on Thursday. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 11 runs or more this season.

Bobbie Strus was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Shorecrest Prep let Sonia Anderson and Madi Bidwell run wild. Anderson went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Bidwell went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That home run was Anderson's first of the season. Sarah Ayscue was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Shorecrest Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Shorecrest Prep's record is now 5-1. As for Cambridge Christian, they moved to 7-2 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

After both having extra time off, Shorecrest Prep and St. Petersburg Catholic will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field one another at 4:15 p.m. on March 25th. As for Cambridge Christian, they will challenge Bishop McLaughlin Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Cambridge Christian is facing Bishop McLaughlin Catholic at the right time seeing as Bishop McLaughlin Catholic is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
