The Lake Country Lutheran Lightning will head out on the road to challenge the Columbus Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Lake Country Lutheran's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Last Friday, Lake Country Lutheran beat the Timberwolves 59-48. Given Lake Country Lutheran's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Timberwolves are ranked 211th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Sam Hans, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Gavin Skrzypchak, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Columbus had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against Poynette by a score of 53-41.
Lake Country Lutheran's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. As for Columbus, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-7.
Lake Country Lutheran suffered a grim 71-45 defeat to the Cardinals when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can Lake Country Lutheran avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
