Clay City is a perfect 10-0 against White River Valley since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eels will take on the Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Clay City is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They blew past Dugger Union 23-3. The victory continues a trend for the Eels in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won seven in a row.
Charli Walters looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April.
On the hitting side, Karlee Smith was incredible, firing off two home runs, five runs, and seven RBI while going 4-for-5. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2 runs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Mitchell, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Clay City lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dugger Union didn't launched any.
Meanwhile, while White River Valley put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for North Central. The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Thunderbirds.
Addison Lawrey made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, White River Valley let Miah Duncan and Lainey Strosnider run wild. Duncan went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Strosnider went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs. Addalyn Helms was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
White River Valley now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Clay City, their record now sits at 17-8.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Clay City has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .468. However, it's not like White River Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .431. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clay City got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April against White River Valley by a conclusive 21-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
