Even though the Northwood Temple Academy Eagles scored an imposing 84 points on Saturday, the South Wake Sabres still came out on top. South Wake came out on top in a nail-biter against Northwood Temple Academy and snuck past 87-84. The win was familiar territory for South Wake who now have three in a row.
It was another big night for Ira Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 10 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Santos, who scored 22 points along with 8 rebounds.
Northwood Temple Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Kenny Vera and Elijah Kindle. Vera dropped a double-double on 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Kindle scored 22 points. The match was Vera's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Mendez, who scored 8 points along with 3 steals.
Even though they lost, Northwood Temple Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Wake only racked up 20.
South Wake now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Northwood Temple Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
South Wake will head out on the road to face off against DASH at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. DASH is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Northwood Temple Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Fayetteville Christian at 7:00 p.m. Fayetteville Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 410th, while Northwood Temple Academy is ranked 160th).
