Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, a fact the South Webster Jeeps proved on Friday. Everything went their way against Western as South Webster made off with a 74-48 win. Given South Webster's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while Western is ranked 351st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Webster was led to victory by Eli Roberts and Tyler Sommer. Roberts dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds, while Sommer dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jack Timothy, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Western's loss came despite strong showings from Drew Haggy and Kam Janes. Haggy scored 28 points, while Janes scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. The match was Janes' fourth in a row with at least ten points.
The win makes it two in a row for South Webster and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Western, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-1.
South Webster will be staying on the road on Sunday to face off against Belpre at 12:30 p.m. on December 10th. Belpre is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. Western won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Peebles at 4:00 p.m. on December 9th.
