The Chandler Wolves's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Xavier College Prep. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Chandler in their matchups with the Gators: they've now lost nine in a row.
Chandler's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Markayla Shirley, who scored nine points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Averi Mehlberg, who scored 11 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Xavier College Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sarah Miller, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Dominique Nesland was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Chandler's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Xavier College Prep, they pushed their record up to 20-4 with that victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.
Chandler will take on the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Basha focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Thursday. As for Xavier College Prep, they will head out on the road to take on the Pumas at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Perry will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Gators are ranked second).
