Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Emerson Mavericks, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a 36-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bears on Friday. Emerson's loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Several Mavericks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Izzy Bills, who rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Michael Hawkins, who rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown.
South Oak Cliff can attribute much of their success to Danny Green jr, who rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Green jr has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last four times he's played.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to South Oak Cliff's defense and their ten sacks. It was a group effort, with three guys contributing.
Emerson's loss dropped their record down to 12-3. As for South Oak Cliff, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 13-2.
Emerson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. South Oak Cliff will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Port Neches-Groves at 11:00 a.m. on December 16th. Port Neches-Groves is on a seven-game streak of home wins, South Oak Cliff a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
