Whitesboro is 7-2 against Boyd since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Whitesboro is taking a road trip to square off against Boyd at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Whitesboro comes in on five and Boyd on 17.
Whitesboro had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Pilot Point on Tuesday. Whitesboro never let Pilot Point get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Whitesboro, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Avery Howerton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Whitesboro let Cameron Ortiz and Kaydence Thomas run wild. Ortiz went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Thomas went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Downs, who went 3-for-4 with three runs.
Whitesboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 11.6.
Meanwhile, Boyd was able to grind out a solid win over Paradise on Tuesday, taking the game 4-0.
Like Whitesboro, Boyd also got a great game from a two-way player: Abby Atkinson. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Atkinson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Atkinson wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Budge, who went 2-for-4 with one run.
Whitesboro's record is now 18-7. As for Boyd, their record now sits at 22-2.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Whitesboro has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .508. However, it's not like Boyd struggles in that department as they've averaged .480. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Whitesboro couldn't quite get it done against Boyd in their previous matchup on March 3rd as they fell 6-1. Can Whitesboro avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
