The Banning Lewis Academy Stallions scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. Everything went their way against La Junta as Banning Lewis Academy made off with a 58-34 victory. Banning Lewis Academy might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four contests by 24 points or more this season.
Banning Lewis Academy had a senior duo take command as Kaylee Gentsch scored 17 points and Elany Canada scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Gentsch scored 15 or more points. Ashtyn McKean was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Despite the loss, La Junta saw an underclassman step up: Raquel Rodriguez dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabelle Aragon, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, La Junta were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Banning Lewis Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for La Junta, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Banning Lewis Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lamar at 5:30 p.m. on January 12th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Lamar is ranked 172nd, while Banning Lewis Academy is ranked 157th). As for La Junta, they will head out on the road to face off against Eaton at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Eaton will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
