Jefferson-Morgan and the Pioneers are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2018, but not for long. The Jefferson-Morgan Rockets will head out on the road to take on the West Greene Pioneers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Pennsylvania (Jefferson-Morgan is ranked 524th, while the Pioneers are ranked 544th).
Jefferson-Morgan struggled with threes on Friday (the Trojans had five more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Jefferson-Morgan fell to the Trojans 51-47. Jefferson-Morgan has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Huston Guesman, who scored 11 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. He hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of John Woodward, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, West Greene pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 66-55 to Monessen. That's two games in a row now that West Greene has lost by exactly 11 points.
Like Jefferson-Morgan, West Greene lost despite seeing results from several players. Matthew Wassil led the charge by scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Wassil hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Lane Allison, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds.
Jefferson-Morgan's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for West Greene, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Jefferson-Morgan have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like West Greene struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Jefferson-Morgan came up short against the Pioneers when the teams last played back in January, falling 45-39. Can Jefferson-Morgan avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
