The Danville Warriors will challenge the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Danville's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They put the hurt on Frankfort with a sharp 12-0 victory. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Autumn Muncy looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Addison Davis and Allie Gunter did most of the damage at the plate: Davis went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Gunter went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs Davis has posted since back in April. Caroline Armstrong was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Danville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 10-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory had no problem doing just that on Monday. Everything went their way against the Athenians as they made off with a 10-3 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Braves considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Sophie Braun made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danica Geyer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Elli Bergstrom, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
The victory got Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory back to even at 11-11. As for Danville, their win bumped their record up to 15-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Danville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Danville's way against Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory in their previous matchup back in May of 2022, as Danville made off with a 19-0 victory. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Braves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
