The East Wilkes Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the North Stokes Vikings at 7:30 p.m. North Stokes took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on East Wilkes, who comes in off a win.
East Wilkes' three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 33-7 margin over Alleghany. The victory was just what East Wilkes needed coming off of a 35-6 defeat in their prior game.
East Wilkes' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Austin Nash, who rushed for 61 yards and three touchdowns, and Tristan Alkire, who rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Alkire was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 68 yards.
Meanwhile, North Stokes' recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their eighth straight loss. They took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Stokes.
North Stokes' defeat came about despite a quality game from Amos Stanbery, who rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Ethen Garcia also helped out as he racked up 111 rushing yards.
East Wilkes now has a winning record of 5-4. As for North Stokes, their loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8.
Everything came up roses for East Wilkes against North Stokes when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 42-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for East Wilkes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
