Basketball Game Preview: Calexico Bulldogs vs. Vincent Memorial Scots

The Calexico Bulldogs will face off against the Vincent Memorial Scots at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Calexico will be strutting in after a win while Vincent Memorial will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Calexico beat Imperial 43-39. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Calexico found their leader in sophomore Edgar Mendoza, who posted 21 points and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mendoza has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Michael Duffy, who earned nine points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Vincent Memorial unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 59-58 to Central. While the Scots didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Spartans 21-11 in the first quarter.

Calexico will have to contain JoseCarlos Acosta as he made an impact in Vincent Memorial's last game. He dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 43.1% of Vincent Memorial's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gael Villavicencio, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards.

Calexico has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Vincent Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.

Calexico came up short against Vincent Memorial in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 64-58. Can Calexico avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
