The Northfield Nighthawks will head out to square off against the Eaglecrest Raptors at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Northfield will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Northfield's tournament run continued when they took on Vista PEAK Prep last Saturday. The Nighthawks put the hurt on the Bison with a sharp 8-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Nighthawks, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Mason Brennan made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Eli Jackson was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Logan Bader also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Northfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Eaglecrest). They walked away with a 13-10 victory over Vista PEAK Prep on Saturday. With that win, the Raptors brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Logan Franks tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cosme Vera, who scored a run while going 6-for-6. Blake Anderson was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run.
Northfield's record now sits at 5-1. As for Eaglecrest, their record is now 3-5.
Northfield's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Nighthawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Eaglecrest, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Northfield continue to outrun the ball?
Northfield came out on top in a nail-biter against Eaglecrest in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Nighthawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
