The Goshen Central Gladiators will head out on the road to challenge the Washingtonville Wizards at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Goshen Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Goshen Central blew Valley Central out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Valley Central got their revenge. The Gladiators fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 3-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Gladiators couldn't push the score so high this time.
Goshen Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was F Mitterbauer, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Washingtonville made easy work of Warwick on Friday and carried off a 17-9 victory. The Wizards might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by eight runs or more this season.
Bryce Tesseyman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Washingtonville is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-4 otherwise. Tesseyman was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Andrew Dempsey was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Omar Puello, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Washingtonville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Goshen Central's loss dropped their record down to 6-4-1. As for Washingtonville, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Goshen Central suffered a grim 12-4 defeat to Washingtonville in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Gladiators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
