Hi-Plains recap October 22, 2013
Elkhart extended the longest winning streak in Hi-Plains this week by beating Stanton County, 64-32. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Meade took down Wichita County 73-18 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jett Little threw for 36 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 85 yards in the win.
Sublette's dynamic duo of Brendan Giesick and Obed Meraz proved to be unstoppable against Syracuse, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Giesick threw for 147 yards and 2 touchdowns and Meraz had 74 yards receiving. Nathan Cearley helped Sublette's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 73 yards.
Gage McAtee was a force in the backfield as Lakin defeated Cimarron.
McAtee was a passing and rushing force as the Broncs beat the Bluejays. McAtee's key target this week was McAtee, who caught 2 passes for 21 yards.
Elkhart's Alex Gomez and Juston Hurn have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Gomez has thrown for 1,572 yards this season, while Hurn has 32 catches for 945 yards. McAtee from Lakin leads the league in rushing with 1,068 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Elkhart takes on second place Meade. Khris Buckner's team bested the Trojans last week, while the Buffaloes defeated the Indians.
Hurn of the the Wildcats' is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 55 receiving yards in this week's game against Meade to get there. So far this year, he has garnered 32 catches for 945 yards.
The league will see a high scoring game when Elkhart and Scott Moshier's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Wildcats comes in having scored 312 this season, while the Buffaloes have scored 365. Elkhart scored 64 points last week as it topped Stanton County.
