The Cyprus Pirates struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Corner Canyon Chargers had 1000% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Cyprus ended up on the wrong side of a rough 76-52 walloping at the hands of Corner Canyon. Cyprus has not had much luck with Corner Canyon recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Defeat or not, Cyprus got some senior leadership from Amelia Echternkamp who scored 15 points and Tamila Francis who scored 15 points along with 4 steals. The contest was Echternkamp's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Veanna Pauu, who scored 5 points.
It was another big night for Elina Mortensen, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds for Corner Canyon. The game was Mortensen's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Maia Rhay was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals.
Cyprus' defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Corner Canyon, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.
Cyprus will be playing at home against Farmington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Farmington is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Corner Canyon won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Brighton at 7:00 p.m. on December 6th. Brighton will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
