Baseball Recap: Tuscarora Sets Scoring Season-High Against Rock Ridge

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tuscarora). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Rock Ridge Phoenix a 16-0 shutout on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Ethan Johnson and Carter Peshke did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Peshke went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI Johnson has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Connor Quill, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Tuscarora was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Tuscarora is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Rock Ridge, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

Coincidentally, Tuscarora and Rock Ridge will both be playing Loudoun Valley the next time they take the field. The Phoenix will head out to face the Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Huskies will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
