Madison Comprehensive hasn't had much luck against Mt. Vernon recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Rams will take on the Yellowjackets at 11:00 a.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Madison Comprehensive 3.6, Mt. Vernon 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Madison Comprehensive's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Thursday's struggle, when Dover hitters got past them. The Rams lost 16-3 to the Crimson Tornadoes on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Rams have suffered since April 16th.
Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon came tearing into Friday's matchup with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Hornets as they made off with a 13-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Jocelyn Scarbury spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Carly Kennedy and Rylee Myers did most of the damage at the plate: Kennedy went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one triple, while Myers got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four RBI gave Kennedy a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Bates, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Mt. Vernon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Licking Heights only posted an OBP of .393.
Mt. Vernon's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Madison Comprehensive, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-4.
Madison Comprehensive skirted past Mt. Vernon 1-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
