Yreka hasn't had much luck against West Valley recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Miners will venture away from home to challenge the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
If Yreka beats West Valley with ten runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Miners walked away with a 10-6 win over Lassen on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Miners.
The team relied heavily on Emmie Freitas, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Cici Henry was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Yreka kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Valley). They were the clear victors by a 34-1 margin over Anderson on Friday. Considering the Eagles have won ten contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Cadynce Gippner made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off six runs, three triples, and three RBI while going 5-for-5.
In other batting news, Addy Taylor was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddy Pemberton, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Yreka's record now sits at 4-19. As for West Valley, their record is now 12-7.
Yreka suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to West Valley in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Miners avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
