Basketball Game Preview: Widefield Gladiators vs. Coronado Cougars

The Widefield Gladiators will head out to square off against the Coronado Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Widefield is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Palmer on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Widefield lost 58-34 to Palmer. While losing is never fun, the Gladiators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Terrors are ranked 75th).

Despite the defeat, Widefield had strong showings from Jaylen Sankey, who posted 12 points, and Trevin Stemler, who had 12 points. That's the most points Sankey has posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Coronado didn't have quite enough to beat Air Academy on Saturday and fell 49-46. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Widefield has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Coronado, their loss dropped their record down to 1-16.

Widefield came out on top in a nail-biter against Coronado in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 47-44. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Coronado's Jalyn Jarboe, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 19 points.
