The Edwards County Lions and the Vienna Eagles will round out the year against one another at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday at. Edwards County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 487th, while Vienna is ranked 224th).
Last Thursday, Edwards County was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 58-54 to Webber.
Meanwhile, Vienna had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 84-39 victory over Johnston City. Vienna might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven games by 26 points or more this season.
Owen Treat was his usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-6 from deep and dropping a double-double on 23 points and 14 assists. The match was his 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Hunter Webb, who scored 12 points.
Edwards County now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Vienna, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3.
Edwards County suffered a grim 65-42 defeat to Vienna in their previous meeting back in December of 2022.
