The Bethune Bobcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight defeat. They received a tough blow as they fell 46-27 to Genoa-Hugo/Karval. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Bethune in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now lost five in a row.
Josh Salinas was Bethune's leading scorer, having posted 11 points.
Caleb Gitschlag held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Genoa-Hugo/Karval to victory, but perhaps none more so than Eddy Franey, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks. Franey continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Lockhart, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Bethune dropped their record down to 1-10 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.3 points per game. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bethune will take on the Wolves at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Idalia presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Bobcats in Colorado (the Wolves are ranked 128th, while the Bobcats are ranked 342nd). As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, they will head out on the road to take on the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
