Softball Recap: Union Springs Extends Road Winning Streak to Ten

While Union Springs put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Newark Valley. The Wolves were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over the Cardinals. Considering the Wolves have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Paityn Delaney was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Abbi Tracy was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Kate Herrling was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double.

Union Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in six consecutive matchups.

Union Springs' win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Newark Valley, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Coming up, Union Springs will challenge Southern Cayuga at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Chiefs will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Wolves surely won't give up without a fight. As for Newark Valley, they will square off against Groton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Red Hawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.78 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
