The Chavez Titans are still winless after their contest against the McNair Eagles last Friday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. Chavez fell just short of McNair by a score of 35-33. Despite 100 more yards than McNair, Chavez couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Chavez's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Eugene Yarbrough, who picked up 116 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Yarbrough's longest reception was for an incredible 97 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Lamontae Barlow, who threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns.
McNair's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from skyler bell, who threw for 431 yards and four touchdowns while completing 77.1% of his passes. Corey Waters was another key contributor, picking up 189 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Chavez's loss was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-10. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-2 Edison and 8-2 Linden (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.6% over those games). As for McNair, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-5.
Chavez will be playing at home against Stagg at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for McNair, they will head out on the road to face off against Bear Creek at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
