The McKenzie Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 66-55 to Shields. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why McKenzie lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaylen Mcmillian. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Mcmillian hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Jay Jackson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Shields' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Adrian Watts led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Watts has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dante Leffall, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
McKenzie bumped their record down to 4-10 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Shields, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McKenzie won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Red Level at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. One thing working in Red Level's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matchups. Shields won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against W.S. Neal at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
